Oakham Town Council Summer Break and Planning Delegation

Oakham Town Council Summer Break and Planning Delegation

Oakham Town Council will not hold any more meeting until September.

Last night the Council member delegated powers to comment on planning application to the Clerk
during this period.

I know Oakham Town Council is consulted because the law requires Rutland County Council to do so.
I really don't see the point.

Many comments made by members often contravene planning laws. For example I have forgotten
how many times a Councillor will say "well some one did it up the road so it must be OK" planning law requires each case to be judged by its own merit and not compared to another past application.

If I was submitting an application this month I would be very unhappy to find that a recommendation
from an unqualified clerk could sway Rutland County Council decision when considering my application.

Its a big enough worry to think they may even be swayed by the parish councillors who often just approve
because something looks nice or they have met the applicant and he or she is a nice person and will do a good job.

Oakham Town Council will be holding a council meeting in private later this month, it has been described as a informal meeting to which the public are not welcome.
