Oakham Town Council Community Grants Available 2013

Following the approval of its budget for 2013 - 2014, Oakham Town Council has allocated £8000 of tax payers money for grants to local organisations.

Although this amount is smaller than previous years  it will be sufficient for the council to award the same old groups it supports year after year.

Most of those groups are groups  Town Councillors are involved in.

It would be good to see applications from genuine deserving groups like the drop in centre at the Congregational Church and not the old cronies affiliated to Oakham Town Council.

Oakham Town Council does little to publicise the availability of these grants , It  has started to  publish details on its website.

It was suggested at a council meeting, the council might consider not giving any publicity.

I think  Oakham Town Council should stop giving these grants, many councils have  this includes  nearby Melton Borough  Council which Cllr John Nowell mentioned on his fraudulent application last year.

Any good organisation is able to raise its own funds.

Why should Councillor Dodds, Oakham in Bloom be awarded money  year after  year.

Oakham Town Council has wasted Thousands over the years spending money on over priced
hanging baskets all credited to Oakham in Bloom. Oakham  in Bloom receives this support in addition to the annual grant and it is never clear how this public money is spent.

Then there is the Oakham Festival , I wont say much about that, Just to say its fine for Cllr Charles Haworth to say "it was rubbish"  at a council  meeting.  But when I write questioning the
expenditure of £2,000 of public money after those who provided performances told me they were not paid he accused me of being slanderous?

The same people told me  Cllr Maureen Dodds often refused to pay expenses to people who helped organise the carnival.

The Carnival ended and thousands  pounds public money was given away by Cllr Dodds, the councils legal advice was she could because the council gave the money with no conditions attached. This is how Oakham Town Council handles public money.
