Autumn Steam Gala At Rocks By Rail

Autumn Steam Gala At Rocks By Rail

Sunday November 16th

Rocks By Rail - The Living Ironstone Museum are pleased to announce details of the Autumn Steam Gala to be held on Sunday 16th November 2014.

The Gala will feature visiting steam locomotive 'VULCAN' running alongside the museums resident Andrew Barclay locomotives.

These three engines will provide passenger brake van rides throughout the day - your chance to travel in a historic piece of rolling stock, rather different to modern coaches.

The locos will also take turns leading our quarry demonstration trains into our quarry section where visitors can watch a diesel face shovel loading the trains with precious iron ore.

Another diesel machine will be stripping back the earth overburden to expose the ore in our 'Digger Playpen'.

For the first time, our new 'Quarry Spur' will be in operation, allowing more complex shunting moves to take place while visitors look on from the quarry viewing area.

While in the quarry area, visitors may like to take the opportunity to see the progress of the recently announced Sundew cab restoration, supported be a recent Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

Visitors are also invited to see the progress on another recently announced project - the construction of the Ironstone Railway Exhibition Centre, a three road building that will see our locomotives stored under cover for the first time.

As always, visitors can inspect current restoration projects in our Woolsthorpe Shed - see steam and diesel locomotives stripped down ready to receive a new lease of life.

A busy day in prospect, but our Sundew Cafe will be open serving hot and cold food and drink for weary travellers.

Price: Adult £5.00 ; Child £2.50; Under Fives' Go FREE!
