Ronald Eyre, Former French teacher at Former Vale of Catmose College, Oakham, sentenced today to six years and six months imprisonment, indecent assault on a boy under 14 years

A former school teacher has been jailed today for sexual offences dating back to the 1980’s.
Ronald Eyre (72) of Manchester Way, Grantham, Lincolnshire pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14 years of age on Friday October 31 at Leicester Crown Court.

He was sentenced today (Friday December 19, 2014) to six years and six months imprisonment. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

The conviction relates to offences committed by Eyre when he was a French teacher at Former Vale of Catmose College, Oakham in the 1980’s.

Ronald Eyre also taught French at Wymondham College.

Detective Constable 878 Jamie Carr, the investigating officer, said: “Eyre abused his position of trust and used his victims’ young ages and vulnerability to carry out his crimes. This abuse has had an overwhelming effect on them and is reflected in the statements they have released today.
“Both victims showed tremendous courage in coming forward and reporting this man. Hopefully they and their families are able to start new chapters in their lives knowing that Eyre is finally held accountable for his actions.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to ask the public to contact us if they believe that they may have been a victim of Eyre’s crimes or have any concerns please contact the police.
“It can be very difficult for people to come forward and report abuse even more so when it happened so long ago. I would like to reassure anyone that does contact us that their report will be treated with the utmost sensitivity and specialist officers will be on hand to support and assist victims.”
