The former HMP Ashwell closed after riots, the Ministry of
Justice could not afford repairs.
Sold to Rutland County Council who renamed it Oakham
Enterprise Park.
Very little if any Enterprise has been created.
A couple of new jobs have been created, most business
has relocated to the site leaving many empty premises around the
county taking up the councils cheap rental options.
The project has run over budget and makes little money
for the council.
Rather like Cllr Kings previous other failed project just up
the road.
Cllr King had proposed to sell the smaller business park
to help contribute towards the cost of the new enterprise
park.
The sale has once again fallen through and earlier this
year KPMG reclassified the site after it appeared Rutland
County Council had almost written the asset of in its 2014
-2015 accounts.
Rutland County Council could perhaps recoup Cllr Kings
losses by selling both sites to the Ministry of Justice
to build their proposed new prison?
