The Lib Dems did not contest the first Leicestershire PCC elections in 2012 because they thought directly-elected commissioners would politicise policing.

a number of senior party figures locally have expressed their reluctance to put their names forward because they fear the Tory support in the county will make Coun Bannister hard to beat.
