Oakham Cemetery BBC East Midlands News Interview Residents Who Have Set Up Facebook Page to shame Rutland County Council
Oakham Cemetery BBC East Midlands News Interview Residents Who Have Set Up Facebook Page to shame Rutland County Council into making much needed improvements to the cemetery.
Rutland County Council has neglected the cemetery for a number of years now.
The Town Council would like to take over the cemetery, it will only do this if Rutland
County Council brings it up to an acceptable standard.
After this weekend I received a number of complaints about the poor condition of the
cemetery, I have passed those concerns to Rutland County Council and our MP Alan
Duncan. This weekend was particularly important for many visitors who were visiting
mothers graves.
Although a contractor is paid to litter pick and empty bins they currently seem unable
to do this. Christmas and New Year pretty bad, Mothering Sunday was not much
better.
Visiting today I noticed Rutland County Council has started to carry out some works.
I am hoping Oakham Town Council will be reviewing their working group, hoping
they can find out why Rutland County Council is failing to carry out the required
works.
I was contacted this afternoon and looked quite cold and scruffy after returning
from Melton Mowbray and gave my first TV interview, I guess the BBC will
be able to use about 5 seconds. The BBC interviewed other residents. Another
Councillor present was camera shy.
The item will be shown tomorrow lunch time and again in the evening.
