Costly Paper Waste Created by Oakham Town Council
Since returning to Oakham Town Council I have accumulated
this pile of papers.
Because Oakham Town Council refuse to modernise and cut the
cost of the council administration the highest proportion of the
councils expenditure.
I am not sure how the chairman Adam Lowe and a few other
Councillors manage to carry out their duties as Cllrs because
they tear up and bin all their papers after meetings.
One of the frustrating things about Oakham Town Council is
its lack of openness and transparency.
We currently have no website so we can not see old minutes
which are often relevant to current council business.
A few times I have been asked by other councillors for copies
of what I have and I am always happy to provide them with
copies.
The office is often reluctant to provide any documents.
The council recently purchased a expensive new colour copier and scanner
and it was hoped it would be used to make the office job easier
it has features where documents can be scanned emailed and sent to
the website if we had one and many other features unfortunately
it is just used as an expensive photocopier.
We must also be one of a few councils who still only print on one side.
Cllr Haley produces some reports at each meeting, we receive pages
of information repeated at each meeting. I have raised this at meetings
and he has no desire to save the public a single penny.
