A community pay-as-you can afford food service has been launched in Oakham.

The Little County Kitchen has been created by the people behind the town's popular Orbis restaurant.

It's first day was today.

The project is totally non-for profit and will be providing good hearty meals as well as some treats at complete cost price.

If customers can pay more that money that is used to provide free meals to Rutland families who need a little help.

There is a low-cost option for people for whom a mid-week (Wednesday) takeaway is financially out of reach.

I ordered and enjoyed  a 8" Margherita Pizza  and a very very  large a chocolate brownie sundae.

How does it work?

Each week a new menu will be uploaded to the TLC website - with delicious meals ranging from pizza, traditional British food, curries and more, including some mouth-watering desserts.

Each dish will have multiple prices:

  1. The first price covers the cost of the products used to make the dish and the delivery container.

  2. The second price is an incremental cost - so is slightly more than the first price but not as much as the full price (RRP).

  3. The third price is another incremental cost - this one slightly higher.

  4. The RRP - this is the full price for the dish. (This pays our wonderful staff, our bills, overheads, etc).

During these times of COVID-response lockdown, we will be offering free delivery only, we cannot currently accommodate in-person takeaway. Our delivery radius is within approximately 5 miles of Oakham, see the map

What does that mean for you?

It’s simple: Pay what you can afford.

Of course, everyone loves a bargain, but The Little County Kitchen works by those who can afford to, paying more than cost price.

You can even round up your payment and ALL of the additional income goes back into providing FREE meals for those most in need.

You can also donate to this brilliant community project through our GoFundMe page, or directly through PayPal here
