Oakham residents are invited to join the Oakham Town Council (OTC) in a grand celebration marking its 50th anniversary!

This special event, taking place on March 30th, 2024, at Oakham's Victoria Hall, will not only commemorate the council's golden jubilee but also serve as a fundraiser for the Rutland Community First Responders, chosen as the Mayor's charity for 2024.

The Rutland Community First Responders are a dedicated team of volunteers who play a vital role in the community. These everyday heroes provide crucial support in emergency situations, utilising their training in Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and various life-saving procedures. In January alone, they contributed a staggering 882 hours to service, training, and support, attending to a wide range of emergencies, including strokes, cardiac issues, and sadly, even end-of-life care.

Their invaluable contributions are entirely unpaid and rely solely on local fundraising efforts. The Oakham Town Council's birthday celebration aims to raise vital funds for the First Responders, ensuring they can continue their life-saving service in the community.

Hornblower, a beloved local establishment, is temporarily closing its doors following a kitchen fire that occurred Friday evening. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The Hornblower posted on Social Media:

"The safety of our staff and customers is our top priority, and we felt it was necessary to close temporarily to ensure a thorough assessment of the damage and complete necessary repairs."

The closure will allow Hornblower to:

Conduct a full inspection of the kitchen and ensure all potential hazards are addressed.

Restore the kitchen to its former functionality and meet all safety regulations.

Develop a timeline for a smooth and safe return to business.

The Admiral Hornblower, a popular local pub, restaurant and hotel, experienced a fire this evening, leading to the closure of the entire hotel for the night. Thankfully, all guests and staff were safely evacuated, and no injuries have been reported.

The fire broke out on Friday, February 23rd, causing disruption for guests and residents in the area. The extent of the damage to the Admiral Hornblower is unclear at this time, and the hotel is currently seeking alternative accommodations for its guests.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire, they are investigating the cause of the fire.

Failure to disclose investment: It is alleged that upon joining the force in November 2022, PC Hussain failed to declare details related to his financial investments, specifically those involving cryptocurrency.
