Funding Boost for Future Farmers: Emma Molesworth Trust Opens Grant Applications
Aspiring farmers residing in Rutland have a valuable opportunity to gain financial support for their agricultural education, thanks to the Emma Molesworth Trust. In conjunction with Rutland County Council, the Chairman and Trustees of the Trust have announced the opening of applications for the 2025/26 Emma Molesworth Trust Grants.
Established in 1966, the Emma Molesworth Trust was founded with the specific aim of providing financial assistance to Rutland residents pursuing courses in agriculture. Recognising the significant financial commitment involved in today's education, the grant aims to alleviate some of this burden for students embarking on a career in farming.
The Trust is now operating two application streams, providing flexibility for prospective students. The first deadline for applications is August 31st, 2025, with successful applicants being notified and receiving their grants between September and October 2025. A second application window will close on February 28th, 2026, with grants awarded between March and April 2026.
The Emma Molesworth Trust Grant can provide crucial financial aid for a variety of educational expenses, including:
Course materials and equipment
Travel costs to college or university
Accommodation expenses
Course fees
Funding for special course-related projects such as field trips and work placements.
Councillor Andrew Brown, Chairman of the Emma Molesworth Trust, expressed his enthusiasm for supporting the next generation of farmers: "We are delighted to be able to support Rutland residents studying for a career in Farming. Each grant is awarded on merit and is a reflection of the tremendous contribution farmers make to the County of Rutland. We are gratified by the number of high caliber students applying for funding and wish them every success with their studies and future careers."
The Trust offers an annual grant of up to £1,500 for longer courses lasting a year or more, and up to £250 for shorter courses of less than a year. The appointed Trustees will carefully assess all courses to ensure they align with the Trust's objectives. Furthermore, other relevant farm training or short courses will also be considered based on their individual merit.
For Rutland residents with a passion for agriculture and a desire to pursue further education in the field, the Emma Molesworth Trust Grant presents a significant opportunity.
