15th century entrance gateway to the former Newarke religious precinct
that was later used to store the weaponry and gunpowder of the town's
militia during the English Civil War.

During the 20th century it was used as a WWI recruiting station.
Interesting features of the building include historical graffiti dating back
to the 16th century. Enjoy a free tour around this fascinating and well-known
mediaeval building with the Curator of Leicester History. Sensible shoes must
be worn as there are many steps to climb. Not suitable for children under 7 or
people with mobility issues. Booking essential for the tour
