The A606 between Oakham and Melton Mowbray remains closed following a major fire that broke out on Sunday afternoon, October 27th, 2024.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the blaze at a derelict building in Stygate Lane, near Whissendine, at approximately 4:30 PM. Multiple crews were deployed to the scene to combat the flames, and firefighting efforts continued for over 15 hours.
As of Monday afternoon, October 28th, the road remains impassable due to the ongoing presence of fire appliances and hoses connected to nearby hydrants.
Leicestershire Police have advised motorists to avoid the affected area and seek alternative routes. A diversion has been implemented through Whissendine.
The public is urged to heed the advice of emergency services and stay away from the area.
