The City of London Police is one of the few Forces in Britain
to have retained both their Dog Section and Mounted Branch
and have seen them both grow and develop over the years.
The Mounted Branch was first introduced to the Force in 1873,
and at that time the horses were hired in from local livery stables on an ad hoc basis
they come under the remit of the Specialist Support Directorate
based at Wood Street Police Station.

The City of London Police cycle patrol team was first formed
on 14th August 2002 and consisted of 4 officers on mountain bikes
and even to this day the only police force in the country
to have a full time dedicated cycle patrol team.
As well as being able to rapidly respond to calls
through dense London traffic the cycle patrol team
assists in various Ward priorities,
conducts a plain clothes bike theft operation
and provides education based external presentations
on safer riding to all members of the cycling community.
They even have blue lights and sirens.
