Conservative Councillor Leigh Higgins, deputy leader of Melton Borough Council suspended for comments in a speech he made at the Best of Melton Awards were considered to be of a sexist nature by some.

After comments started to appear online like this one:

'Debbie Longley

Lovely evening at Best of Melton Awards.

However, if you want confirmation that some people still live in the Dark Ages; COUNCILLOR Leigh Higgins just asked all the ladies to stand up so we could be seen as it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to ‘enjoy’ those kinds of sights!!! (Needless to say I didn’t stand up)

It’s a business and community event you absolute sexist, chauvinistic tool. Plus, I am not there to be ogled by anyone! He also told us how he nearly lost his multi million pound business and had to go on to JSA, and that some other millionaires had to have food parcels. My heart bleeds.

P.S Congratulations to all the winners and finalists.'

This does not surprise me, he was taught by the best old Melton Tory farts back in 2015, you only have to look at @meltonblue who can say anything they like and offend anyone they like to understand this. Its a shame really he has turned into one of them.

Conservative councillor sacked from post for joke about murdered Manchester policewomen, Tory Cllr Stephenson, on Erewash Borough Council in Derbyshire apologised for the “tasteless” remarks

Conservative councillor sacked from post for joke about murdered Manchester policewomen

Councillor Abey Stevenson
Party: Conservative
Ward: Little Eaton and Breadsall

Councillor.abey.stevenson@erewash.gov.uk

Mr Stephenson, on Erewash Borough Council in Derbyshire, apologised for the “tasteless” remarks.

Speaking from his home near Ilkeston, Mr Stephenson said: "If I've caused offence to anyone I am really very sorry.

"I never intended to and if I could turn back the clock i would.

"I don't know the lady who made the complaint but I apologise to her for any offence caused."

He added: “I am totally against the use of guns and no-one should have been exposed to them in the way those two lady police officers were.”

Council leader Chris Corbett said he was appalled, adding: “I have removed him from his post as a lead member immediately.”

It is not possible to remove him as a borough councillor as he was elected, but he will not be able to stand for re-election for the party.

Erewash Council always interest me because it does some funny things.

It once sacked it Chief Executive and used the money to employ five road sweepers.

the sacked chief executive sued and won his case so I can only imagine in the end the council
did not save a penny.

The Chief Executive who is obviously more qualified than our current mistake here in Rutland
became the head of legal services at Rutland County Council.

He no longer does that job, people don't really know what he does these days.

He wrote to me the other week asking me to be patient, Rutland County Council owe me money
he said I will receive a refund, but  I must be patient. he must be have a job in the typing pool

Now can you imagine me or anyone else getting away with that if we owed them a penny?

Conservative Councillor and Deputy Leader Terry King Rutland County Council

A few more emails received today from Councillor King , he is offering me money again.

I don't understand  why the deputy leader of the council thinks its ok, to send this style of e-mails to me.

Irrational and disrespectful.

When you do eventually take that long awaited independent legal advice, I am sure they will tell you your current reply has only buried you deeper and that if you had taken such advice prior that you may have not prejudiced yourself yet again.

Any offer to help you start to get employment, either self employment or otherwise will continue to be made, and that includes funds for you to set up and avoid you having to remain being unemployed, a matter that you keep telling me that you would like to rectify. If you keep abusing the offer that does not mean to say it will be withdrawn, but it may stop you looking for the sympathy vote, like many of us you have options to stand on your own two feet, some people are not so lucky. You have said you want to work, I have offered you a route.

It is sad that you still have not apologised for publically reporting a persons ill health on your blog, but I thing sadly we have become used to this anti social behaviour.

You will never duck your actions on your anti social behaviour to some ladies, and your reference to how people may get illnesses is beyond belief. I found it unacceptable and I am sure their families also did.
For the record I have only spoken to Jan Fillingham a handful of times in my life, I doubt she would take that as friendship, even if your conspiracy complex wishes it to so.
If you don't want to take help to get employment then that's your choice, but please don't keep telling me life is not fair, I have offered you a genuine chance to come off JSA.
