Edmondthorpe Mile Marker Now In Oakham Rutland?

Edmondthorpe Mile Marker Now In Oakham Rutland? Oakham Town Council decided to install this? A mile marker for a Leicester Village. The miles shown to Melton is even incorrect so I am not sure why this has been installed on the by-pass, something for a speeding motorist to hit.

We have our own marker giving the distance to and from London on another Oakham Road.

A Visit to St Michael & All Angels Edmondthorpe, Leicestershire.

martinA Visit to St Michael & All Angels Edmondthorpe, Leicestershire.

St. Michael’s is best seen from the road approaching the village from the south. (we did not stop to take a photograph. The fine tower is 13th century. With a 15th century upper part where the stone changes. Decorated work predominates in the mixed styles of the body of the church. Inside are a series of impressive monuments to members of the Smith family: the most stunning is the three tiered alabaster monument to Sir Roger Smith, d.1655. Other items of interest in this light interior include a mediaeval screen and a George III Royal Arms.

The church is preserved by the Churches Conservation Trust.

Photographs also of Buckminster and Ashwell Rutland
