Each year, Jerwoods ensembles and soloists
take great delight in putting on their own special
concert. A huge number of Jerwoods pupils are
involved in a diverse programme, including
a performance of Six Choral songs by Rachmaninov
in the translation by Mark Herman and Ronnie Apter
which was specially commissioned in 2009 for the
Jerwoods Choir.

Saint Nicolas
Sunday 4th December 2011 7.30pm
Oakham Choral Society Concert and Orchestra
Girls of Oakham School Chamber Choir
Holly Single Hurst soprano
John Graham Hall tenor
Angus Bower-Brown baritone
Martin Cropper violin
Tom Chatterton organ/chorus master
Peter Davis conductor
Vaughan Williams The Lark ascending
Finzi in Terra Pax
Britten Saint Nicolas
This concert has a real Christmas flavour, opening
with Vaughan Williams' much loved work and
Finzi's popular cantata, In Terra Pax, Benjamin Britten's
dramatic work, Saint Nicolas, tells the story of the
bishop of Myra, on whom Santa Claus is based.
It is a wonderful example of Britten's outstanding
ability to capture the essence of his subject matter
with a series of dramatic yet essentially simple ideas
to which performers and audiences can immediately
relate. The part of Nicolas is by operatic tenor
John Graham Hall.

Thursday 22nd September 2011
7.45pm
"Harry Harris is the best damn pianist in the civilised world" Jonathan Ross
In a coup for Oakham, they are delighted to present the
extraordinarily talented and musically versatile Paul Harry Harris.
Quite simply, Harry does things with the piano that you've
never heard before, moving seamlessly between jazz, caberet
and classical.
He's had his own show on BBC Radio 2, been resident pianist
on Channel 4's Big Breakfast, run a nine piece band on Jonny
Vaughan Tonight, appeared with a who's who of British jazz
musicians, accompanied just about everybody in the business
from Charlotte Church to David Bowie... the list is endless
Unmissable!
