Oakham Mayor Rutland Times commencing work on the neighbourhood plan. Not what he said at the Town Meeting.
Recent Public criticism of Oakham appears to have finally sunk in. At the recent town
meeting Cllr Alf Dewis blamed Rutland County Council for the councils lack of
neighbourhood plan. At the same meeting a Rutland County Council objected to Cllr
Alf Dewis comment.
At the town meeting Cllr Alf Dewis said the plan would start in 2016.
In the past Cllr Dewis and his team could not be bothered to even consider starting
a plan. When questioned about Uppingham ability to implement one he said "they
will regret it"
I believe the sticking point for Cllr Alf Dewis is held within his last sentence.
Oakham Town Council has never been to keen to swing open the club doors
and permit public participation, If Cllr Alf Dewis could dictate a plan upon the
residents and business of Oakham I believe he would.
Oakham Town Council has never discussed the neighbourhood plan. So I am not
sure how Cllr Dewis can say work will commence this year.
Cllr Dewis often forgets no single member including the chairman / mayor can
decide what the council will or not do.
From the Rutland Times
In Oakham, Alf Dewis will serve his second term as mayor having previously held the role in 2013/14. He said: “The coming year is going to be very busy as the council will be taking over responsibility for the maintenance of Oakham cemetery and commencing work on the neighbourhood plan.
“The plan will have a huge effect on the town and require participation from individuals, groups and interested bodies.”
