Oakham School Presents Moving Radio Play to Tackle Loneliness

Oakham School is set to host a special presentation of "The Autumn of My Years," a touching radio play by Uppingham actor and writer Henry Dawe, as part of its annual Service Weekend. The event, which aims to foster inter-generational connection and raise awareness for the Campaign to End Loneliness, welcomes the entire community.

About the Play: "The Autumn of My Years"

First broadcast on Harborough FM in 2023, "The Autumn of My Years" tells a story centered on the theme of inter-generational friendship. It explores how meaningful relationships can bridge the gap between different age groups, offering companionship and mutual understanding. The play's message resonates deeply with the current national conversation surrounding isolation, which is why its presentation is being linked directly to the vital work of the Campaign to End Loneliness.

Author Henry Dawe, a resident of nearby Uppingham, uses his local connection and artistic talent to highlight a universal issue, making the experience particularly relevant to the Rutland community.

Service Weekend and Community Connection

The presentation forms a key part of Oakham School's Service Weekend, an initiative dedicated to strengthening the bonds between school pupils and older members of the local community. The weekend encourages students to engage in activities that promote empathy, service, and valuable connections, embodying the school's commitment to social responsibility.

Hosting the play about friendship and connection is a perfect fit for the weekend's ethos, providing a creative and engaging platform to discuss a serious social issue. The hope is that the performance will spark conversations and inspire attendees—both young and old—to seek out and build meaningful inter-generational relationships.
