Moshiin Hamid, The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
World Book Night 2011
I was given this book as part of World Book Night, publishers in the gave away one million free books.
So why should I read it?
Changez, the hero of the novel, was born in Pakistan, educated in America and then worked in a high-powered well-paid job in New York living,
apparently, the American Dream. The Book charts his gradual disillusionment with America and his
return to Lahore, where he meets an American in restaurant, and tells him his life story.
The book captures the current tensions between east and west, whilst the increasingly tense atmosphere between Changez and his American listener encourage us to make assumptions about the direction Changez
is going in.
A gripping story, which moves forward at a fast pace.
I will look forward to reading the book, won't be tonight as I am enjoying watching World Book night on BBC2
