Oakham in Bloom and Oakham Town Council Baskets

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen dislikes driving into a village or town  and seeing basket after basket of Petunias, when he travels with his work for the Royal Horticultural Society. I wonder if it because of the link to tobacco? the flower is from the same family. obviously you can't smoke it or we would have some wonderful coloured cigars. The popular flower derived its name from French, which took the word Petunia, meaning "tobacco,"

Is this why Oakham has not won Britain in Bloom?

Personally I think the garden centre provides this assortment of flowers
because they are cheap and easy to put together and makes the
annual contract running in thousands of pound very profitable.

(Kevin O'Brian Gaol Street is a big supporter of
Oakham in Bloom)

Of course if Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen was
to drive to Oakham and not look up
he would see the wonderful work done
by Oakham in Bloom this year we have seen
a creation of many new beds full of a good
mixture of more interesting plants and shrubs

In October the contract for providing the baskets runs out.
The Town Council who organise the contract will discuss
renewal of the contract at a meeting during that month.

I would like to see Oakham in Bloom take over the contract
and possible fit containers around the base of lamp posts.
And plant them with the same plants they use in beds.

Some people may have noticed there has been a issue with
placement of baskets this year after some have
fallen or been pulled down down.

Please don't  forget if you have a view tell the Town Council.
