The Lands' End Garden
Chelsea Flower Show 2011
Gold Medal Winner
The Lands’ End Across the Pond Garden is inspired by the philosophy of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Drawing on Wright’s seamless blending of nature with the built environment, the garden is a stylish outdoor space featuring his favourite materials. Polished concrete pads form stepping-stones across a pond and a wall of falling water provides movement. Handcrafted seats echo Wright’s love of organic elements, while the overall effect is complemented by a restrained selection of architectural planting to create a haven of calm and seclusion. Hornbeam hedging and Zelkova serrata ‘Green Vase’ create height, balanced by a mixture of vertical and horizontal planting at ground level.
