Rutland County Budget Meeting £3.3 million Cuts at least another 75 Staff will go
Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD (Leader of the Council) gave a speach I have requested a copy for future publiccation.
He announced 75 staff will be cut saving £1.4 million thats an average of £18,666 I suggest if the bully is sacked Helen Briggs Chief Executive that will save 6 junior staff.
Mr Richard J Gale (Independent) - OAKHAM NORTH WEST WARD said it may be more than 75 staff one thing I have learnt Rutland County Councils figures can change by the minutes
Some are not very clear Mr Peter J W Golden (Lib/Dem)- NORMANTON WARD stood and said the document in front of him was not a detailed budget.
Mr Roger B Begy (Conservative) - GREETHAM WARD (Leader of the Council) said he found the consultation worthwhile
(I can now see why the Council did not give much publicity to the result of the votes for cuts the number of votes is embarrassingly low)
He went on to say the most valuable activity was going out and talking with the public at the Co-ops and Tesco.
(Well done the pennies finally dropped Councillors should listen to the electors.)
He said if members don't approve the budget the Council would have a £1.9 million deficit by 2014/15
He was very pleased to announce this was the first year since Rutland's Independence there would be no increase in Council Tax.
So I assume if every council in the country accepts the governments bribe, sorry grant then Rutland will still be the highest Council Tax Bill in the land and the poorest value for money. Congratulations Mr Begy, Mr Jones and Mr King and Helen Briggs Joint bullies sorry Conservatives.
Mr Begy said a bus service that was considered for the chop will be save at least until the end of the next academic year.
The Councils reserve of £1.5 million was discussed
Mr Richard J Gale (Independent) - OAKHAM NORTH WEST WARD asked where was the money was it kept in Helen Briggs office.
Mr Terry C King (Conservative) - EXTON WARD (Deputy Leader of the Council) gave a long explanation and suggested other council had more and Rutland's amount was tiny.
Mr Kenneth A Bool (Conservative) - UPPINGHAM WARD (Vice-Chairman of the Council) assure members and the public was not kept in Helen Briggs office.
And there was me thinking she might have it stashed in one of those blue honesty pigs.
At the end of it the Council Voted to accept the budget.
Chief Executive Helen Briggs will be sharpening her axe with glee tonight!
