Founded in 1712, the Stamford Mercury is the oldest surviving newspaper title in Britain. (this is disputed) Effectively it is a microcosm of life in Stamford, and this presentation celebrates a colourful 300 year history, illustrated with readings and images. Early on it became a newspaper of record and dominated the whole of the East Midlands throughout the 19th century. It reported local, national, imperial and international news and only recently has it restricted itself to local events having little or no impact these days. On-line there is a  national news feed.
