Peter Lawson will become this years High Sheriff of Rutland.
It is hoped by the time he is appointed he will be presenting, The High Sheriffs Certificate for "Services to the Community"
Oakham Town Council has been asked by the current High Sheriff to nominate two people for their service to the community. This is honour of the Queen's 85th birthday on April 21st 2011.
Nominations will be considered by the high Sheriff and certificates will be presented by the Lord Lieutenant at a ceremony to take place on April 21st.
It would be nice to think these awards were given to people who really deserve them. Some one who does good and does not shout about it, but I fear this will not be the case as one Councillor immediatley asked if she could nominate a person she was involved with.
So can I suggest if you know some one who is deserving and not a member of the Club could you let your councillor know.

1p Saving Oakham Town Council Budget for 2011-2012 1p Saving
At fourth attempt last night Oakham Town Council set its budget for 2011-2012 saving council tax payers of Oakham 1p I am not a maths expert so I can not say how much of a saving that is once the 1p is divided between all the the residents.
The budget takes into account a £900 over spend on the previous year.
The largest cost is the new contract awarded to Cory Environmental (I knew I should have placed that bet)
So it's goodbye to VALE MAINTENANCE.
The Second largest cost is administration this includes the Clerks generous salary.
I wonder if they budgeted for the cost involved for their campaign against me, the Standards bill is going to be huge now the Ethical Standards Officer has refereed the investigation to a tribunal.
The good news for local people is as Follows Oakham Town Council is not asking for an increase in Council Tax (Precept) it is seeking £209.690 to spend as it pleases, 1p less than last year, Well done Oakham Town Council!

Rutland County Council v Oakham Town Council £15,000 loss down the loo?
Rutland County Council v Oakham Town Council £15,000 loss down the loo?
Some time ago I published details about the fiasco relating to the new Oakham public toilets.
Oakham Town Council approved a £40,000 spend, even though no contract had been drawn up between themselves and Rutland County Council, the amount was based on a estimate given some time before work began. The members can not be blamed, they can only act upon information put before them by the Clerk.
When building work was completed Rutland County Council billed, Oakham Town Council £55,000.
Since this bill arrived the Town Clerk has tried to sort out the mess he created, I say he because who with any competence get involved in such a large project and does not draw up contracts!
The Clerk reported at a recent meeting the member of staff at Rutland County Council was not currently working at the council and this was causing a delay.
It appears Rutland County Council have now written of £15,000 The Town Council are now in receipt of a credit note.
A lucky escape for the Town Clerk? It would be interesting to know how Rutland County Council are explaining the loss?

What I like about my home town Oakham Rutland
People often ask me ask me what I like about Oakham. I like the majority of kind good people who live in our town. I was out and these two people asked me to take there photograph infact they were very insistent.
In return I rather reluctantly agreed to be photograph with one of them.
So as agreed I publish their photo Two nice merry Oakham guys, who told me 'I am a nice guy'
I am sure Councillors, Ex Councillors and their friends will be annoyed when they read this, all I can say is there comes a point when people find it impossible to believe some of the fabricated malicious rumours you spread about me.
