More New Benches For Cutts Close Oakham Town Council

More New Benches For Cutts Close Oakham Town Council

At next Wednesday's Town Council Parks and Planning meeting Councillor are being asked by the
Clerk to consider purchasing new benches for Cutts Close.

The Clerk has described this as a rolling project. In plain English that means if we rip out few perfectly good solid benches and replace with new ones every few months no one will notice! we are spending £500+ for each bench and obtaining no quotes whilst spending public money.

I posted about the 5 benches near the toddlers play area, not long after the council had paid for them to be painted they were ripped and of the ground and binned and new ones purchased. Because the Clerk said the new one look nicer. Most councillor agreed, easily done when its not your money being spent. A member of the public commented at the time this is what makes my blood boil, maybe they could attend on Wednesday and tell this council exactly how they feel about how they squander their money, because they wont listen to me.

Has anyone counted the number of benches in Cutts Close. I would like to know why such a large lucrative contract to replace all the towns benches was never put out to tender, who is benefiting from this most? The Contractor, The Clerk or the Council? certainly not the tax payer, we all know this peace-meal approach to any purchase is costly.

Why was there no tender and why are we once again being asked to consider only one quote.

The Town Council financial regulations don't exempt park benches as far as I can see.
