Oakham Town Council Community Grant Applications

Community Grants, although we have not set a budget for next year, Oakham Town Council set out its policy at last nights meeting for awarding grants.

It will not advertise or tell anyone of the availability of your money.

Closing dates for application will be the 31st March each year.

So if you are a community group looking for a small grant I suggest you put in your application ASAP

Oakham in Bloom (chairman Cllr Maureen Dodds)
Rutland Citizen Advice (Cllr Alf Dewis and Cllr Lucas both have an interest)
and Oakham Festival.  Will of course have this knowledge and will as normal submit their applications in good time. Although it can be assumed their chums will once again be the only groups who will benefit.

Knights School a after school project was mentioned they were turned down last year, because their application was too late, a worthy course for the Council to support. Of course the council does not have to award grant to anyone, it could follow Rutland Councils lead and pull the plug on funding on many good causes.

Oakham Town Partnership need to plan Christmas 2012 a little earlier if they wish to claim a slice of the cake.
Rutland County Council should also consider them same this year they came to the council a few week before a youth event asking for a grant although the grants budget was spent, Oakham Town Council found the money from another heading clearly not wanting to upset Rutland County Council

The Council said it will also comply with legal advice and not award money without attaching conditions.

The Town Council decided to award £800 to the Oakham Town Partnership for street entertainment at the late night shopping event.

The Town Partnership had failed to specify exactly what they wanted to spend public money on, despite the partnership telling the public it had a surplus £7,000+ the council decided it would be complying with the law if it specified how the partnership spent the money even though not one member present had any knowledge of the Town Partnerships plans for the night.
