Stupid drink drivers face court before Christmas Day

Arrested drink drivers face court before Christmas Day

Court dates have already been set for some of the drink drivers arrested over the weekend. Four of the seventeen arrested for being over the legal alcohol limit whilst at the wheel of a motor vehicle will appear in Leicester and Loughborough Magistrates Courts before Christmas Day.

Eight of the nine people arrested on Saturday, were arrested between the hours of 8pm and 5am. Inspector Gill Lewis of the Leicestershire Roads Policing Unit said, “There is more of a temptation to drink over the festive period. Make sure you make the right choice if you’re planning to have a drink on your night out. Booking a taxi home with friend is the safest option. Be aware that you may be over the limit the morning after the night before.”

The total of 17 arrested since the ‘None for the Road’ enforcement campaign was launched on December 1, 2011 is in line with averages of last year when 125 drivers were arrested during December 2010.

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership are requesting that people keep their eyes and ears open this Christmas. If you see someone who appears to be drunk leave a public house or club and then enter a vehicle to drive away, make a note of the registration plate and the direction of travel and call your local police on 101* or make a make a free and anonymous call to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111**
