I'm interested in a Council structure that works
Not happy at all with the present council in it's current form although as individuals there are some good people.
Back in the 'Good old days' we all had our say and democracy seemed to be in place and worked.
Today that is not the case as the largest group with 64% of the Councillors, holds The Cabinet and a large slice of Scrutiny. Scrutiny is unfortunately a nonsense.
Not only have the number of scrutiny meetings been cut by 25%, but the largest Group, the Conservatives have stolen more seats on panels than an educated and sensible mind would allocate.
This means that the four INDEPENDENTS not within any group only have one place on the four scrutiny panels, whereas conservatives have three each.
This all has a knock-on affect if we want to call-in a decision. Really, does it make good business sense for the Conservatives to hold 100% of Cabinet seats and then the largest slice of scrutiny seats? This is also unrepresentative when you consider that 33% of conservatives are there by default, that is, without having to fight at the Poll.
If we really want to represent our community in the best possible way, there should be no Party politics and we should work closer together without the secret or exclusive little meetings.
Mr Gale won't say it, I have before, the only reason the Conservatives monopolise all the committees is to line their pockets, for every committee they are a member of this increase the tax free allowance they receive.
