Core Strategy approved by Melton Borough Council 1,000+ homes and facilities to the North of Melton Mowbray

Melton Borough extraordinary meeting of the council

 Melton Core Strategy

Venue:  Parkside, Station Approach, Burton Street, MM, LE13 1GH 

Melton Borough Councillors voted to approve a new Core Strategy for development in the Borough over the next 15 years this includes the proposal to build a Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) of 1,000+ homes and facilities to the North of Melton Mowbray.

Members of the public were looking forward to tonight’s Extraordinary Council Meeting re: the housing north of MeltonMowbray. They waited for some time find out which way there Cllrs would vote.

Key Issues for Melton Core Strategy include Housing & employment development, town centre, infrastructure and climate change

Around 300 members of the public attended the meeting this included Melton North Action Group (MNAG) who are campaigning against the Melton Borough Councils proposals

As the meeting progressed members of the public started to get bored, complaining to each other.

Mayor had to ask the public to be quiet. The Public were not happy.

South Melton Action say: Housing developments in Melton North will cause chaos, not solve it. Suggesting 15 years of traffic hell. They also say No bypass - no housing!

The leader of the Labour group gave a speech. Stating he will vote against the housing development in the North of Melton.

Conservative Councillor Cllr Pam Posnett said she will not support core strategy tonight.
