Petition Against Melton Borough Councils Green Waste Club

Petition Against Melton Borough Councils Green Waste Club

new recycling service

Brown Recycling Bin

Today in Melton residents were signing a petition against Melton Councils decision to introduce a charge to
take away garden waste.

Looking at the quantity of signatures there are a lot of unhappy residents,

The gentleman collecting the said he would like to compost the new council building.

I think its a little bit new to do that yet?

I visited the council reception to gain the councils side of this dispute. Not much luck there.

The reception appears to be managed by another operator like our local train stations.
they don't know what each other are up to.

In this case the receptionist employed by Leicestershire County Council  was very helpful,
made a couple of phone calls, my visit ended with the offer a compliments slip showing the
the web address for Melton Borough Council. Not wanting to waste precious paper I declined
it.

Here is the information found on the website of Melton Borough Council:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO ALL RESIDENTS

YOUR WASTE COLLECTION SERVICES ARE CHANGING

From Monday 2 April 2012 your grey and green box recycling collections will become a wheeled bin collection service, using the brown bin many of you have been using for garden waste collections.  The alternate weekly collection service will become refuse collection in the black wheeled bin one week followed the next week by the collection of mixed recyclables (what you used to put into the green and grey boxes) in your Brown bin.

What can I put into my recycling Brown Bin?

You will be able to put all the materials you currently put into your recycling boxes plus all types of other plastics, cartons, carrier bags, telephone directories, envelopes, and almost everything that says its recyclable, If you do not have a brown bin please contact us on 01664 502502 and we will get one delivered to you as quickly as we can. An information leaflet will be sent to every household explaining all aspects of the new recycling service.

Your garden waste collections will no longer be part of the alternate weekly service. You can still have your garden waste collected for composting, if you choose to join the new ‘Green Waste Club’ the charge is expected to be in the region of £32 a year for which you will receive a green coloured wheeled bin together with regular  fortnightly collections.  For more information call 01664 502502 or go to http://www.greenwasteclub.co.uk/ for more information.
