Next Wednesday Oakham Town Council is to appoint at least three members to form a panel for the purpose of talking to prospective candidates regarding vacant seats on Oakham Town Council.
Co-option as I have said before is not democratic.
If a person want's to serve their community what right do other councillors have to decide they can or can't serve.
It also annoys me those who come forward for co-option can not be bothered to find ten supporters to call for an election. Its not that difficult to go and knock on a few doors. Of course the publicity and instructions on how to do this is very limited. I would like to see a day when all the homes in the wards are notified instead of just a few that might spot it on the council notice board or hearing about a vacancy from a councillor
Over the past few years I have witnessed some of the most awful interviews of candidates.
So I can understand why a few at the councillors may want this panel. Although I don't agree with this process.
