Gareth Thomas (Harrow West, Labour)
To ask the Secretary of State for International Development with reference to the International Crisis Group
report on Sri Lanka: Women's Insecurity in the North and East, if he
will provide aid to non-governmental organisations in Sri Lanka to
assist women who are or are at risk of becoming victims of sexual
violence and exploitation.
Alan Duncan (Minister of State, International Development; Rutland and Melton, Conservative)
There are no plans for DFID to provide further bilateral aid to non-government organisations in Sri Lanka. Her Majesty's Government continues to have concerns about human rights in Sri Lanka and the High Commission
in Colombo regularly meets with the Sri Lankan Government to discuss a
range of these issues, including those of women in the North and East.
