Rutland County Council Agree to Lock Into Ashwell Prison Project and Attempt to Secure 10 year loan

Tory Councillor Terry King hoped this project will secure employment opportunities for Rutland Residents.

The was a lot of talk about the future and how much of the funding appears to be coming from 106 payments the council is not currently in receipt off.

Tory Councillor Edward Baines said he might not be alive to see the success of this project, Cllr King admitted the same but confirmed he was unlikely to be sharing Cllr Baines coffin..

There is currently no clear plan for the prison site.

Although Cllr King had a lot of hopes and claimed interest form many companies nothing has
been confirmed yet.

He did conform the council has no business partner.

He announce Tiger Aspect film production had expressed an interest in obtaining part of the site. Are we going to see a remake of Prisoner Cell Block H?

On the spot horror had also expressed and interest. For on the spot horror you only have to look at the anger if Cllr Kings face if he doesn't like you. I experience this horror last night.

He went on to say the Judo Club want the gym.

His biggest concern was if the council did nothing, the site would remain empty and next April the council
would find itself with financial difficulties as they would not receive income from rates previously received from the prison.

A solution had been found for the disposal of the razor wire. Mr Briggs has consulted with the army and they will remove it as part of training.

Cllr King said people believed there were only two users of razor wire one being the prison and service and the other being the armed forces, he said clearly those people had not been to Bradford.

The grass at the site is currently be cut by inmates from another prison and they have agreed to assist
with other works.

Cllr King was appeared ver y keen to see this project help young people starting  up in business and
the increasing number of long term unemployed.

He said he notices an increase in those applicantions coming across his desk at his company. I hope he liked mine he never did reply.
