Surrey Police, Police England and Wales Police and Crime Commissioner elections, 2012
Surrey Police
Kevin Hurley is standing as Zero Tolerance Policing Ex Chief. With thirty years Police Experience, much at senior level and forty years as a Reservist Army Officer, I’ve seen a bit; confronting drunken hooligans, investigating murders, managing a multi-million pound policing budget, leading thousands of staff or rebuilding Policing in Iraq.
Peter Williams is an independent candidate. If elected, I would bring to the role extensive experience of police oversight and governance developed over nine years as a Member of Surrey Police Authority, the last four as its Chairman. During this time, we have seen dramatic improvements in performance that have led to Surrey Police achieving some of the highest confidence levels nationally, notwithstanding severe financial challenges. Particularly noteworthy is the addition of 200 police officers since 2010 – the only Force nationally to introduce such an increase
Robert Evans, former Labour MEP, is the Labour candidate. As Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner I’ll be a strong independent voice for local people; opposing these savage Coalition cuts and privatisation plans, – plans which even the police say will irreparably damage the service. For too long Surrey has had fewer police than counties of comparable size.
Julie Iles, a Magistrate, is the Conservative candidate. I will bring a fresh approach to the office of Police & Crime Commissioner.
Nick O'Shea is the Liberal Democrat candidate. Most candidates talk about catching more criminals, having more police on the beat and supporting victims, but without saying how these are possible with shrinking resources.
