Some Councils in our region ban Tweets
On Wednesday, reporter Aaron Frank asked if he could tweet from a public inquiry at the Rutland County Council offices, being held into major changes to a house in Burley.
Planning inspector Jean Russell responded: “If you can get anything that is said into less than 140 characters, you are welcome to.”

Clearly he could not manage it because he failed to Tweet a thing. Not even the adjournment or the date the hearing will recommence
Friday last week Rutland Times photographer Jonathan Smith contacted Mr Pickles directly on Twitter, asking if his recommendation about tweeting and filming at council meetings referred to principal councils or down to parish ones?
Eric Pickles replied “@Mercury_JSmith just open up the lot to cameras. Councils should not wait to be forced to open up their meetings they should get on with it.”
If only they did I cant wait to see Oakham Town Council Live. It's often funnier than Spitting Image
was.
The Mayor tells me he returned to the more relaxed style of meetings when two councillors were away on
holiday. Councillors remained seated throughout and tea or coffee was served, whatever next chocolate biscuits!
Tea and Coffee was banned by Councillor Lucas when she was mayor, one of her biggest achievements.
Cllr Dewis who was away, when all this happened was well known as Mayor for his dictatorial military leadership skills, "you will stand when you address me" he ordered
