Police arrest 21yr old man after internet hacker targeted Durham Constabulary’s website.

Police arrest 21yr old man after internet hacker targeted Durham Constabulary’s website.
October 31, 2014,

Police have today raided the home of a suspected internet hacker who targeted Durham Constabulary’s website.

The suspect, aged 21 was taken from a property on Halstead Place, South Shields, South Tyneside, just after 7am .

He was arrested under the Computer Misuse Act and will be interviewed by detectives.

Durham Constabulary’s website was targeted on October 19th with an attack on the server of the website.

Today’s operation was carried out by the newly-formed Regional Cyber Crime Unit which is part of the North East Regional Special Operations Unit (NERSOU) covering Northumbria, Durham and Cleveland police forces.

A NERSOU spokeswoman said: “Today we have made an arrest of a young man whom we suspect is behind the Denial of Service attack on the Durham Constabulary website.

“These types of attacks are incredibly disruptive and as we move into a more cyber based world, they deny genuine users of websites access to information they may need very quickly.

“We take these types of attacks very seriously.

“We’ve been set up to tackle high level cyber-attacks and we’re here to protect businesses and members of the public.

“The public should be safe in the knowledge that our unit are a dedicated team of detectives here to robustly tackle the threat of cybercrime”

A Durham Police spokesman said that in the interests of security, the force could not give specific details of the offence, or the steps put in place to prevent a similar event happening again.

Greater Manchester Police’s top Special Constable to be jailed @GMPSpecials

October 29, 2014, 3:57 pm

Greater Manchester Police’s top Special Constable is to be sentenced for various ‘comedy’ crimes at the Greater Manchester Police Museum in an attempt to raise almost £1000 for charity.

Chief Officer Michael Walmsley has been summoned to appear at the GMP Museum replica courtroom on Thursday 20 November 2014.

He will present himself at the museum, a former Victorian police station, for mock processing before facing tongue-in-cheek accusations from friends, families and co-workers and receiving a sentenced befitting his crimes.

Upon being sentenced, Mike will be locked up in the Victorian prison cells – the same cells used to house real prisoners in the museum’s previous life – and will not be released until either the bail requirement of £999 has been reached, or he has completed his sentence.

All bail money raised on the day will be donated to the British Red Cross to help fund projects in the local community and support the charity’s international work.

Mike said: “Obviously I am innocent until proven guilty, and I have a lot of faith in the criminal justice system so I am confident that I will be cleared of all charges. I have done nothing wrong!

“However, as confident as I am in my innocence, I don’t think it would hurt if people could find it in their heart to donate some money towards my bail fund just in case I am wrongly convicted.

“All the money raised on the day will be donated to a great cause that helps people in crisis, so even if people don’t believe in my innocence then I hope they can believe in the brilliant work of the British Red Cross and make a donation.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to the museum staff who have helped me greatly with this fundraiser. The museum is an excellent location with exhibits with real history. I think I will return for a proper visit when I’m not on trial!”

If anybody would like to make a donation to Chief Officer Michael Walmsley’s bail fund please visit: www.virginmoneygiving.com/FelonMichaelWalmsley

A judge has criticised Leicestershire Police for the way officers conducted an interview with a six-year-old girl who was badly abused by her mother.

Judge Clifford Bellamy said the way officers handled the interview with the girl meant the evidence gathered from her was worthless.

The judge, who was sitting in a family court in Leicester on Wednesday, said it was the third occasion on which he had found shortcomings in the force’s handling of interviews in delicate cases.

Only a few weeks ago a library user proudly put his foot up on a table, to show of his tag.
They were tagged after magistrates refused their request to send them to prison.

This afternoon I spotted this tag wearer strolling along Oakham High Street. Until this month
I had never seen anyone tagged.
