Sue Tyers Former Oakham Mayor Disgusted "Shame on you Oakham Town Council" Rutland Times Letter

Sue Tyers Former Oakham Mayor Disgusted "Shame on you Oakham Town Council" Rutland Times Letter

None of the old guard was worried when one of our former Mayors became intoxicated and another former Mayor filmed and published them and others exposing their dignity in public, bringing real shame to our town. I did promise the former Mayor I would never republish her bottom
even though many people said it was quite good for the age.

Mrs Tyers writes she has never seen people drinking in the park at the boxing day meet I can
assure her it was not difficult to see.

below is a couple of screen shots from last years video which show plenty of drink being
consumed. I have plenty of other photographs to back up my comment.

Personally I don't have a problem with this consumption, what I have a problem with is the
old guard who in 2009 introduced a ban, Mrs Tyers was a member of the council who introduced
what they described as a ban, It is a discretionary ban. discretion is often
used and when the average person has a drink it may be poured away by the police whilst Oakham Town Council permits people to sell and consume when it suits them. I strongly believe everyone
in our community should be treated equally, the discretionary ban should be removed.
It may have lapsed, because I have not seen a review come before council for a number of years,
whilst the signs remain the police will of course act. If the council does not want drinking in
the park it should apply for a blanket ban.

Mrs Tyers also asks the question does the town council feel it no longer represents the residents
of Oakham?

Oakham Town Council has not represented the residents for many years.

Only this week I had to seek an amendment to the council strategic plan so the
community / residents were included.

The Rutland Times and The Rutland Mercury both report
people are delighted that Rutland County Council has
made its Car Park available
