Music lovers in Uppingham and beyond are in for a treat on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, as the esteemed Tedesca Quartet graces the stage at Uppingham Methodist Church.  This promises to be an unforgettable afternoon of chamber music, featuring works by Haydn, Barber, and Brahms.

The concert, starting at 4 pm, offers a diverse program showcasing the evolution of the string quartet genre.  The audience will be transported through time, experiencing the brilliance of these renowned composers.

The program includes:

Haydn Op. 74 No. 3 in G Minor "The Rider":  Known for its energy and rhythmic drive, this quartet, nicknamed "The Rider," is a quintessential example of Haydn's masterful string quartet writing.  Its nickname comes from the galloping rhythm of the final movement.

Barber Op. 11 in B Minor:  A poignant and deeply emotional work, Barber's quartet is celebrated for its lyrical beauty and introspective nature.  It includes the famous Adagio movement, often performed separately as a standalone piece.

Brahms Op. 51 No. 2 in A Minor:  A rich and complex work, Brahms's quartet is a testament to his craftsmanship and emotional depth.  It's a powerful and dramatic piece that will captivate listeners.

 The Pickfords Pharmacy located in Oakham, Rutland is set to close its doors permanently on February 28th, 2025. 

The decision to close has been made, and the pharmacy is now in the process of selling off all its assets, including fixtures, fittings, and equipment.

This closure will likely have a significant impact on the local community, as a Pharmacy at this location has been a staple in Oakham for many years. 

Residents who rely on the pharmacy for their healthcare needs will now have to find alternative options.

The sale of the pharmacy's assets presents an opportunity for other businesses in the area.

An extraordinary meeting of the Oakham Town Council, Originally a Parks and Planning meeting, it has been changed to consider and approve the budget for 2025-26. The finance committee is proposing a 4.8% increase.

An extraordinary meeting of the Oakham Town Council will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025, at 6:30 pm at the Town Council Offices, Rol House, Long Row, Oakham, LE15 6LN.

Originally a Parks and Planning meeting, it has been changed to consider and approve the budget for 2025-26. The finance committee is proposing a 4.8% increase.

Severn Trent Water to Close Melton Road in Oakham for Essential Pipework


Oakham, Rutland (January 27, 2025) - Severn Trent Water has announced plans to close Melton Road in Oakham from January 27th to 30th, 2025, to carry out essential water pipe installation work.

The road closure will be in effect 24/7 throughout the duration of the project. Local residents and businesses are advised to plan their travel accordingly and expect potential delays. Traffic diversions will be in place to guide motorists around the closed section of Melton Road.

The planned work involves the installation of a new water pipe to improve the water supply infrastructure in the area.

A spokesperson for Severn Trent Water stated, "We understand that road closures can cause inconvenience, and we apologise for any disruption this may cause to the local community. This essential work is necessary to ensure the long-term reliability and quality of water services for residents and businesses in Oakham."
