Belper Methodist Church Belper Derbyshire

 


Belper Methodist Church is a place of worship in Belper, Derbyshire. It is a member of the Methodist Church of Great Britain. The church was founded in 1782 and is one of the oldest Methodist churches in the country.

The church is located in the heart of Belper, on Chapel Street. It is a Grade II listed building. The church is built in a Georgian style and has a simple but elegant design. The interior of the church is light and airy, with a high ceiling and large windows.

History

The first Methodist preaching in Belper took place in 1782, when John Wesley visited the town. A small group of people began to meet regularly for worship, and in 1784 they built a small chapel on Chapel Street. The chapel was enlarged in 1807, and again in 1842.

In 1857, the Wesleyan Methodists and the Primitive Methodists united to form the Wesleyan Methodist Church. The Belper chapel became part of the new denomination.

In 1932, the Wesleyan Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church united to form the Methodist Church of Great Britain. The Belper chapel became part of the new denomination.

Today

Belper Methodist Church is a vibrant and welcoming community. The church offers a variety of services and activities for all ages, including Sunday worship, Bible studies, prayer groups, and social events. The church is also involved in a number of outreach ministries in the local community.
