Rutland County Council, No Hawksmead, Community Centre, For Oakham
Rutland County Councils Tory cabinet is recommending that Oakham does not have a community centre.
Developer Hawksmead set aside 1.5 million for a community centre, as part of their 106 agreement.
The cabinet were asked to consider a smaller building costing around £500,000 and the spare cash to be used for local sports project like Cllr Kings at the old prison site the council have just purchased for 1.3 million. Despite Councillor King stating the sports facilities were good and ready for organisations to move in it now appears he needs lots of cash to progress?
At the next full council meeting on the 11th February 2013, the cabinet is recommending that no community
hall is built and the cash alternative is taken, to be used on projects yet to be decided.
Rutland County Council is becoming more and more like Oakham Town Council, as it admits it is cash led rather than project led.
I think it would be a great shame if the community centre is lost before its built,
Roger Begy often says he does not want Rutland to become a bedroom county. Well if you keep building
houses with no facilities that will be the result.
