Could You be a Rutland County Councillor?
Have you ever considered becoming a councillor? Rutland County Council is offering residents the chance to find out what it takes to be a local representative at a special open event next month.
The event has been organised in partnership with East Midlands Councils ahead of the 2015 elections, which will see all 26 of Rutland’s County Council seats contested. The aim is to encourage more people to stand as local councillors in these elections and thereby increase the choice of candidates for voters.
Anyone can attend the free event, where residents will hear first-hand from Councillors about what their work involves and why it is important. There will also be an opportunity to speak with Officers and Directors about various council services and the support that councillors receive.
The open event takes place at the Council’s offices at 7pm on Thursday 6th November, with similar events planned by Leicestershire councils throughout November and into the New Year.
Councillor Roger Begy, Leader of Rutland County Council, said: “Anyone can become a councillor and make a real difference to their local community.
"You could be just the person to help address the issues and opportunities facing Rutland and, if elected, would be involved in decisions about everything from children’s services and education to economic development and transport. I would encourage as many people as possible to attend our open event and find out exactly how.”
