Martyn Underhill, Police and Crime Commissioner, Dorset

Martyn Underhill

Election statement:

I am the only candidate who is Independent from Political Parties and has a good
working knowledge of the Police.  Party politics and policing don’t mix.  Dorset is a
unique and special County and I am passionate to find “Dorset Solutions for
Dorset People”.  I am an ex police officer who moved to Dorset on retirement.
I led the Sarah Payne case, I advised on Soham. I understand the Police and I have
no connection to this Force. I am a Trustee/Volunteer for five Dorset charities and sit
as Laymember on my Local Safeguarding Children Board. I lecture at Bournemouth
University and am an adviser to the charity Missing People. After six months campaigning,
meeting thousands of Dorset people, I feel I know what you want.  That’s why I petitioned
10 Downing Street recently, fighting for a fairer budget allocation for this Force. If elected,
I pledge to tackle your issues – Domestic Violence, Anti-Social Behaviour, Binge Drinking,
E Crime/Identity Theft, and a more approachable and accountable Police Force.
Persistent offenders blight our lives, and need tackling through firm supervision.
Community Engagement is a priority. I will create PCC Forums that you can sit on with me,
telling me your issues, so I can help resolve them. We need more Special Constables,
working in their community for the community. We need fewer victims and a quicker
service. A Victims Bureau that gives you one person as a contact, wherever your
case sits, be it with police, CPS or the Courts, keeping you informed. We need
a Neighbourhood Watch in every community. I want to see the Voluntary Sector
working as equals to the statutory bodies. And finally, I want to tackle deprived
areas like Boscombe, tackling drug issues, making them safer.

Red Arrows death crash pilot Jon Egging memorial
A sculpture has been unveiled in Dorset as a memorial to a Red Arrows pilot who died after an airshow display.

Flt Lt Jon Egging, 33, of Rutland, died when his Hawk T1 aircraft crashed following a display at the 2011 Bournemouth Air Festival.

The 5m-high artwork on Bournemouth's East Overcliff was unveiled at a private ceremony ahead of this year's airshow, which started on Thursday.
It features three glass Red Arrows planes and stainless steel contrails.
The pilot's widow, was present: Dr Emma Egging, told the BBC: "It's an absolute privilege to see the memorial being unveiled. But of course being here will always remind me of Jon and last year
"Jon loved being in the Red Arrows and the memorial encapsulates the spirit of the team, the positivity and the idea that with hard work and determination you can achieve your dreams."
The one tonne sculpture, created by Tim Ward, of Circling the Square, was designed by Penny Vallier, 10, and George Cutler, nine, from Kinson Primary School in Bournemouth.
Their design was chosen by Dr Egging following a competition held at Bournemouth schools last year.
Councillor John Beesley, leader of Bournemouth Borough Council, said the memorial would serve as "a long-standing mark of respect from the people of Bournemouth".

Former Oakham Town Councillor respectable?

Went into uni last week to collect more books but it just piles up. I haven't had time to type anything up.
I'm reading my notes and listening to some seminars I recorded, and it's far too much for an old man - it's a nightmare. ****** and... me are off to a piss-up in a brewery on Friday with a few of my ex army mates, including *****, so I don't think I'll be doing much studying over the weekend. We are driving down to Dorset on Friday with a couple of nights in a nice hotel and off to the Badger Brewery for a mates 60th birthday on Saturday. The daytime won't be sober either. It's not all bad though, I'll be pretty senceless on Monday when I have my shoulder injected to rid it of the pain, not that after the weekend it's likely to have any feeling in it anyway. When you asked about external reading, did you mean outside. It's been raining here and I thought the pages would get wet.See more

Lets hope the respectable ex Town Cllr and Former Mayor is not stopped by Dorset Police on his way back,
Drink Driving is not seen as respectable outside of Rutland.I would book a few extra days for the effect of the piss up to wear off. Is there ever a sober day between you and you bully mates!

What is respectable about visiting Dorset for a 24/7 piss up?
