Greater Manchester Police, Police England and Wales Police and Crime Commissioner elections, 2012

Greater Manchester Police

Matt Gallagher, a former police officer, is the Liberal Democrat candidate
With 30 years of frontline police experience in all ten Greater Manchester Boroughs under his belt, former bobby Matt Gallagher is the ideal candidate to be Greater Manchester’s first elected Police and Crime Commissioner. The tough, no nonsense former Public Order Commander believes the police service needs to focus on its founding principles, preventing and detecting crime and bringing offenders to justice.

Tony Lloyd, Labour MP for Manchester Central, is the Labour candidate.

The Police are public servants and I want the public to have confidence that Greater Manchester Police is the best Police force in the country.

Roy Warren, a magistrate, is standing as an independent candidate.

I am NOT a politician and I honestly believe the position of Police and Crime Commissioner should not go to a politician and Greater Manchester police should maintain their independence.

Michael Winstanley is the Conservative candidate.

The role of Police and Crime Commissioner is a new and exciting role that can transform policing and crime.  For the first time ever one person will be responsible for policing and crime.  I have worked in the NHS since leaving school and for 11 years was a Councillor in Wigan.  I was Mayor of Wigan in 2010/11.  I want to bring my experience of representing my local community and speaking up for local people to the role of PCC.

Steven Woolfe, a lawyer, is the UKIP candidate.

Gangs on street corners, robberies and burglaries up, police officers attacked in the line of duty. This is the reality of crime on our city streets, a reality that the people of Greater Manchester should not have to put up with. I believe that enough is enough and that we have to challenge those who commit crime head on, with tough policing and even tougher sentencing.
