Opening hours at a library look set to be cut after councillors refused to cover cost http://bit.ly/fhsHLh #Rutland
I think, this story twittered by the Rutland Times is very unfair to both our Town Councils. The request from Rutland's library service came in the form of a begging letter, asking for £2,000.
This was after the councils had set their budgets for the following year.
The town council here in Oakham considered the request a double taxation and refused to pay. Rutland County Council now find it convenient to pass on the blame to town councils. When they are to blame for the cuts. the Town Councils have never had any responsibility for the library service.
This is a poor effort by Rutland County Council to deflect blame.
Who are they going to blame for the hundreds of job losses?
They found a million so why did they not divert the required £2,000 to save cuts at Oakham library?
Or scrap Live@museum that is currently expected to loose £16,000 this year.
