Oakham Town Council Budget
With someone from central government recommending no increase in Council Tax Bills this April. Oakham Town Council is having difficulties setting this years budget, for the fourth time the budget will be put to the full council for consideration.
I would like to say it surprises me the budget is such a mess. But I can't.
At the last meeting Cllr Dewis was unhappy, the council awarded grants far greater than expected. the Chair told him not to worry the budget could be tweeked.
This to me is a clear example of the truth behind the Clerks suggestion last year, Its the councils job to collect tax and spend as we please.
How can the council dish out grants before the budget is set.
At least they now know how much they will be paying Cory for grounds maintenance contract. (Its likely this contract will be awarded to Cory as it Cllr Dewis's favourite.)

The next meeting of Oakham Town Council
The next meeting agenda click hereof the Council is to be held on Wednesday 12th January 2011. The meeting will start at 7.30pm.
It is now common practice for Oakham Town Council to hold private meetings before or after the public meeting. There is no published agenda for these meetings.
It is not clear how much of the council business is decided at these meetings.
I was beginning to wonder why some Councillors were not speaking at public meetings!
I have been told some Councillors don't like me writing down what they say and publishing their comments on my blog. I question why they are Councillors?
Councillor Dewis was very upset when I publish his comment regarding the returning of Rutland to Leicester last year. I cant imagine why.
A councillor should be accountable to the public they represent.
Why does Councillor Charles Haworth always request his decisions are not minuted?
What is he hiding from?
If Councillors decissions were always minuted it might help when deciding how to cast a vote at May's elections.
Councillor Lorna Grey is one of my ward Councillors, she will get my vote if she stands again. She is not a coward, I do find some of her comments amusing at times. She carries out selfless work for charity in a way people should, you don't see her at every opportunity saying look at me in the Rutland Times, like another Councillor who illegally parks and fly posts the town.
Fly posting is illegal a good source of revenue for Rutland County County if they enforced the rule.
I read this week a council threatened a man with prosecution for putting up posters for his lost cat.
Rutland County Councils web site says fly posting is illegal and Cllr Peter Jones ensures the town is littered with posters relating to council events. There has been one poster on the ground near Wilko not far from his home for weeks. Enough of the one rule for us and another for them and back and back to Oakham Town Council:
They would prefer the Rutland Times was the only publication to publish matters relating to the council.
The Rutland Times can not afford to send a reporter so they accept material produced by Oakham Town Council. slightly biased I think?

Rutland County Council Leader Roger Begy Calls for more people!
Rutland County Council Leader Roger Begy Calls for more people to stand at the elections this coming May.
Cllr Begy says he will fight to keep his seat.
He appeals for public to be interested not a bad thing. He says Rutland County Council is non political, this surprises me? I am sure there was a political split this year and one Tory defected to the new group?
If what Cllr Begy says is true and Rutland County Council is non political, why is there a Tory majority and a cabinet made up solely of Tory members?
A thought, Cllr Begy could stand as a true independent? When he wins in May he could sprinkle his cabinet with a few from the other parties?
The Town and Parish Councils also need more candidates or we could end up with Oakham Town Council controlled by Cllr Alf Dewis and Cllr Charles Haworth.
I was surprised to read Cllr Sharon Spencer is to step down in May. Even if she does look at me as if I am a piece of shit, I feel she is not one of the rotten mob and I understand the difficulties she has encountered.
It would be nice to read at least three more will be stepping down. So we could have a fresh start with the newly co-opted enthusiastic members re-elected and some new faces working for the good of our town.
.
Protecting our heritage and behaving in a selfless manner.
I read an article from a very selfish councillors thanking residents for not parking illegally amongst other things!
Are they having a laugh! They admit doing the same albeit only for a few minutes.
The biggest risk for the future of Oakham Town Council is if no one new stands Dewis will select his cronies.
Of course if you do stand and win there is the risk he and his mates will hold daily private conferences to decide how best to remove you if he does not like you.
