Rutland High Sheriff's Certificate of Service to the Community

Rutland High Sheriff's Certificate of Service to the Community

Nominations for Rutland High Sheriff's Certificate of Service to the Community.

The above matter was due to be discussed at tonight's Oakham Town Council meeting.
I am told, this has now been deferred to a meeting later this month.

I have just been informed, a public petition has been handed into Oakham Town Council this morning and two others are circulating.

We, the undersigned, should like to nominate Martin Brookes for his services to the community of Oakham and Rutland.  His pictures of places of local interest, coverage of current affairs at local Council meetings, his commitment to transparency and accountability in matters of local government and his coverage of events in the area, like the last flight of the Harriers and the Oakham Festival, even the litter problem, have helped to bring Oakham and Rutland into the public eye and ensured that a more professional ethos exists in local government.

I personally don't approve of this certificate, what gives a councillor the right to judge any member of the community?

How do they decide who is better,

Town Councillor Joyce Lucas opens here garden for good causes and raised £50 and is likely to hold a book sale to raise fund for the Mayors charity as she has been to  busy supporting those who bully and intimidate me to raise much this year.
The previous mayor only raised the same amount as her allowance

Volunteers daily drive the sick to hospital, a service provided by Voluntary Action Rutland.

Support Workers,

Samaritans befriending service,

 the CAB,

People Wash up and Cook at the drop in centre,

People who shop for elderly, the list could goes on.

Oakham Town Council can not be trusted to decide after Cllr Dodds woke up at the last meeting and asked can I nominate a friend.

Most people do a lot of good in our community and dont want to be seen in the local paper each week.

Of course in most towns people would rely on the local press to help decide something like this.

But we don't have a free press here in Oakham.

I hope the Rutland Times will remember election rules during the months up to the election, when editing the columns they have recently given to Town County Councillors desperate to hold on to power.

Rutland County Councillors Expenses and Allowances.

Councillors Expenses and Allowances were mentioned at Mondays meeting at Rutland County Council.

I wrote a report about that meeting and Mr Richard J Gale (Independent) - OAKHAM NORTH WEST WARD who works very hard for his ward. Sent me the following:

I apologise for not being there as I had intended to do but my work took me up to Cheshire and I was delayed, not getting back home until 8.00pm.

You may find it interesting to learn that all Councillors get the basic allowance, with the additional allowances going to Chairmen etc.

Although it is claimed that Rutland is a non-political council, you might form a different view when you see the Political label these chairmen carry.

Most Councillors getting no more than the basic.

Sitting on committees provides no addition allowance.

You will also see that a number of councillors chose not to claim any expences, paying for mileage, postage and telephone out of their allowance.

There is a small number, including myself that in order to save the council the cost of providing a PC and printer, use their own private machines.
