Lt Col James phillips RA & Dr Laurence Howard JP PhD,
Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant for Rutland
This is no April Fool!

The Hippo's arrive as part of Arts for Rutland's Artistic events
being held all over Rutland from April to June this year.

Last night at the Great Hall of Oakham Castle,
The events got of to a super start.
We saw for the first time a decorated Hippo!
Already to wallow somewhere
in
Rutland

Arts for Rutland have a strong commitment
to encourage all cultural activity
in our county

Cllr Peter Jones along with Arts for Rutland has worked
very hard to achieve the much needed sponsorship.

So far they have acquired the sum of £18,000

I know they would be pleased to hear

from any other willing sponsors

The hippos will find their way to many of Rutland's streets,

parks and open spaces

The project is similar to Liverpool's 'Superlambananas'

and Northampton's pride of lions.

I won't mention Hull's Toad's again.

It is hoped the Hippo's will all be painted by

local artists and groups.

Look out for the trail starting in June and ending in September

Rutland's Schools will be adopting the baby Hippo's

The school children will learn all about Hippo's

and then paint their very own baby Hippo's

more photographs of some of last nights guests

Hippos in Rutland

Tonight Arts4Rutland will be celebrating

Receiving £100,000 of tax payers money, from the Arts Council.

They will also be celebrating delivery of the plastic hippos purchased with some of this money.

The evening of celebration is to be held at the Great Hall @ Oakham Castle.

Drinks, Nibbles and music all free to the invited.

I certainly wont be drinking the tax payers money.

I thought they had already celebrated with the drinks and trip to Curve in Leicester last year?

Well, Rutland would not be Rutland without a good piss up for its dignitaries.....
