Oakham Lawns Tennis Club, Oakham, Rutland, Oakham Town Council

At next Wednesday's (Wednesday 12th October 2011 7.00pm)  full Town Council meeting Councillors will be asked:

To decide on what information the Council needs to gather and how it is to be
gathered in order to make an informed decision on whether to grant Oakham Lawn
Tennis Club’s request to erect floodlights at the Vale

Members and members of the public are asked to note that no decision is being
made at this meeting on the Tennis Club’s request to erect floodlights.
They are also asked to note that even if the Town Council ultimately gives its
permission, the Tennis Club will still need to submit a Planning Application to
Rutland County Council

My view on this is this is a typical example of how Rutland's elite bully residents
so they can reach their goal.

The Tennis Club wrote to residents, threatening a sell off the club land to a housing
developer if they failed to support the installation of the floodlights on Land they do not
own and move. The Tennis Club land is public property and is rented for peanuts by this
elite club. I say lets call their bluff don't give consent to erect the lights after their
disgraceful behaviour and then Oakham Town Council can let the public use the
tennis court something many people in Oakham are longing for here in Oakham is
public tennis courts.

The Clerk has provided Councillor with a note: This is likely to be a sensitive issue and
the office has already been contacted by a resident who lives adjacent to the Tennis Courts.
As stated, no decision is being made on whether to grant the Tennis Club permission to
erect floodlights. For newer members the Lease the Council has with the Tennis Club states
that no development can take place without the prior written permission of the Town Council.
Even if this permission is granted then the Tennis Club will still have to submit a Planning
Application.

For public information the Tennis Club pays £740 for rent and insurance each year.

So far this year it has only paid £350 of this amount. From this you can clearly see who
is benefiting from this public asset, it most certainly is not the Oakham Tax Payers.
