Tourism Committee Members Wanted
The Discover Rutland tourism committee consists of representatives from various sectors of the tourism industry and is currently looking for new members.
In particular, Discover Rutland is looking for somebody to represent retailers in the county.
Two representatives are also being sought from neighbouring counties to help Rutland work more closely with areas such as Stamford, Melton and Market Harborough.
Chairman of Discover Rutland Ed Burrows says: “The retailers representative on the committee is particularly important as Discover Rutland is keen to work closely with traders around the county. Visitors are attracted to Rutland by the strong independent shopping in both towns and we’re keen to build more on that”.
Ed Burrows added, “We are also keen to receive nominations from areas just outside Rutland. We have been very keen in recent years to look at nearby attractions as a way of complimenting the visitor experience in Rutland. You only have to look at how near places like Burghley House and Rockingham Castle are to Rutland and you can see the huge benefit of working closely with them”.
Ed Burrows added: “If anyone is interested in applying and wants to find out more about the committee I’m more than happy to speak with them. Once we have a shortlist, the committee will speak with each candidate before reaching a final decision”.
The Discover Rutland committee meets every six weeks and is extremely active in working alongside the county council to promote Rutland to a national and international audience.
The committee has had many successes in recent years and this is chance for new members to get involved.
The positions are voluntary but it’s a real chance to make a difference to the local area”.
The closing date for applications is 7th March.
Anybody applying should send a letter of introduction which outlines which committee role they are applying for and what relevant experience they have.
Applications should be sent to:
